The Aeroflex / IFR RD-300 avionics test equipment is a bench tester which is meant for precise simulator-tester of aircraft weather radar instruments. The RD-300, in conjunction with the oscilloscope, can perform just about all routine radar testing. Since the RD-300 is related to the unit under-test throughout only 1 calibrated coaxial cable, there's no need to redesign the avionics test equipment to estimate various parameters.

The RD-300 features a signal generator system which in turn by design obtains and monitors the magnetron frequency to eliminate regular retuning of the signal generator to make up for magnetron or signal generator drift. The signal generator is modulated to duplicate storm cell echoes in several modes, as well as Contour Mode. Contour Mode is made for fast calibration and checkout of contour threshold circuits. The range delay of these virtual storm cell echoes is established in microseconds or nautical miles. Multiple returns can be achieved to ensure and regulate the radar range ring display. An auxiliary modulation mode creates narrow, short range pulses for testing multimode radars.

The magnetron state and spectrum features could be confirmed by way of the detector and disciminator outputs. Peak power values are attainable with a full scale sensitivity of 12 kW (or 120 kW peaks with the external 10 dB attenuator). The IF Signal Generator covers from 20 to 70 MHz and can be swept. The two-Volt-rms optimum output could be use for high level IF or AFC testing. Bandwidths and center frequencies are computed by the Marker Frequency Generator for the duration of swept IF tests. The RD-300 boasts antenna simulator output, which enables the display assembly to be swept at a unequal rate.
