TS-4530A (Tel-Instrument) Features and Specifications *

The Tel-Instrument TS-4530A is a sophisticated and comprehensive test set developed by Tel-Instrument Electronics Corp. Designed under a U.S. Army contract, the TS-4530A represents the latest evolution in test set technology, building upon the legacy of the AN/APM-424 and previous TS-4530 models. This advanced unit is engineered to conduct thorough testing of Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems, including the latest Mode 5, as well as Enhanced Surveillance (EHS), Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) functionalities. The Tel-Instrument TS-4530A features a highly integrated digital architecture, enabling it to perform a wide array of tests with precision and reliability. This architecture supports multiple IFF transponder modes, including Modes 1, 2, 3/A, C, 4, Mode S, EHS, and the critical Mode 5 (both Levels 1 and 2). Additionally, the TS-4530A is capable of ADS-B In and Out (transmit and receive) testing, making it a versatile tool for modern aviation and military applications. The TS-4530A offers extensive testing capabilities for both transponders and interrogators. For transponders, it supports Modes 1, 2, 3/A, C, 4, Mode S, and Mode 5, ensuring compliance with current defense and aviation standards. It also tests interrogators across the same modes, including TCAS and ETCAS, providing a complete solution for testing air traffic control and collision avoidance systems. Ease of use is a standout feature of the TIC TS-4530A. The unit includes a large 2.8-inch color OLED display that delivers clear and readable information even in challenging environments. The user interface is further enhanced by a new 3-button switch assembly that incorporates a 4-way directional toggle with push-in to select functionality. This design allows for quick and efficient navigation through menus and settings, facilitating rapid testing procedures.

The TS-4530A is equipped with an integrated GPS system, complete with an internal GPS antenna, to provide accurate Date, Time of Day (TOD), and Latitude/Longitude (LAT/LONG) positioning. This feature is crucial for ensuring precise location data during testing operations. Additionally, the unit includes a built-in KIV-77 Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI) housing, which is seamlessly integrated into the unit's design. This housing ensures that the crypto components are readily visible alongside the display, simplifying the monitoring and management of cryptographic information. Designed to withstand harsh operational environments, the Tel-Instrument 90000125 meets the rigorous MIL-PRF-28800 Class 1 standards for durability. Its rugged construction ensures that it can endure the physical demands of field use, making it a reliable tool for both military and commercial applications. The unit is also lightweight, weighing less than 9 pounds with the battery and without the KIV-77, and features improved power management for extended battery operation. The TS-4530A supports both over-the-air and direct connect test methods, providing flexibility in how tests are conducted. This versatility is complemented by the unit's ability to perform rapid "GO/NO-GO" tests based on stored parameters and criteria, streamlining the testing process and reducing the time required to obtain results. The unit also includes extensive built-in diagnostics to ensure accurate and reliable performance. The Tel-Instrument TIC TS-4530A is equipped with multiple additional features designed to enhance its functionality and user experience. These include remote download capability, which allows users to update and manage the unit's software and test parameters remotely, and a bench utility capability for convenient testing in a controlled environment. The unit also supports multiple stored user presets, enabling users to quickly switch between different test configurations as needed.

The TIC TS-4530A features a signal generator with a frequency of 1030 or 1090 MHz and adjustable power output ranging from +4 to -44 dBm at the antenna connector, with 1 dB resolution and 1.5 dB accuracy. For direct connections, the output ranges from -40 to -95 dBm with the same resolution and accuracy. The measurement receiver operates within a frequency range of 1030 or 1090 MHz, with an amplitude range of +68 to +20 dBm at the direct port and +24 to -24 dBm at the antenna port. It includes comprehensive receiver measurements for power, frequency, pulse spacing, and pulse width, ensuring high accuracy and reliability in test results. The TS-4530A's physical dimensions are 14.1 inches in length, 11.5 inches in width, and 7.5 inches in height. It is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +55°C, with a battery life of 12 hours at 20% duty cycle. The unit supports both internal and external battery charging and can be powered by 100-240 VAC, 50-400 Hz, or 12 to 36 VDC sources. The TIC 90000125 comes with a range of standard accessories, including an external battery charger, AC adapter, power cord, DC power cable, direct connect cable, transit case, KIT/KIR-1C interface cable, USB and RS-232 cables, RF adapter, and an operation manual on CD-ROM. These accessories enhance the unit's usability and provide everything needed for comprehensive testing operations.
