RF Expansion Module (Viavi / Aeroflex) Features and Specifications *
The RF Expansion Module (RFEM) by VIAVI Solutions, in partnership with SPHEREA, is designed to enhance the capabilities of ATEC® Test Systems for airborne RF component testing. This module offers a fully integrated RF test system with an Ethernet interface, enabling easy retrofitting to existing ATEC® installations. It includes a robust test executive interface, making it user-friendly for test operators. The RFEM supports a comprehensive range of navigation, communication, TCAS, transponder, GPS, and other RF systems through an extensive TPS (Test Program Set) library developed by VIAVI, which is available on the SPHEREA Customer Support & Services MySpherea website.
The RFEM features high-performance PXI format synthetic instrument modules for signal generation and analysis. This includes the VIAVI ATC-5000NG NextGen ATC/DME Test Set and the RGS-2000NG NextGen TCAS Test Set, making it capable of supporting NextGen requirements set by the FAA and Europe's SESAR. The compact PXI instruments allow for greater resource density within the RFEM tower, facilitating the testing required by modern global air traffic management transformations.
Additionally, the RFEM's user interface is managed through the ATEC® Test System operator console PC, with Test Unit Adapters (TUAs) designed by VIAVI that connect to the matrix switch on the ATEC® Test System tower. These TUAs transfer all RF signals via an RF expansion interface, which is designed for future growth. Each TUA kit includes software, adapter hardware, interface cables, and a self-test adapter, ensuring comprehensive testing capabilities for various RF units.
